9/10/17

Thanks you to everyone who attended and contributed to another great night of fellowship, information & passionate discussion on the subject of the Pakenham Rotary Club.
While numbers were down, it didn’t diminish the importance of the topics being discussed. On the subject of attendance, I must say that it was disappointing to see how many members were not in attendance, and what was particularly disappointing was the number of members who did not have the courtesy to send their apologies beforehand. While I understand things can get in the way and disrupt the best of plan, all it takes is a phone call or email to ensure we are creating a culture within the club of professionalism, courtesy & efficiency.

Everyone should have by now received an email with the information regarding District Conference to be held in Sale from 16th – 18th February in Sale. I have tentatively booked some rooms for accommodation at approx. $300 for the 2 nights. If you plan to attend and haven’t advised me yet please let me know prior to the end of October. It would be great to have as many Pakenham Rotarians as possible to be part of the activities.

Great work John, one of our newest members, for running the “Jokers Wild” session last week.

While the Joker didn’t go off this time it is a little concerning that Ken Rook seems to be winning the opportunity on a regular basis. (We may need to start charging Ken double moving forward).

It was also a wonderful gesture by John to provide our own Henry Van Dieman with a veteran’s T-shirt to acknowledge his contribution to the defence forces. Very well done John & very well deserved Henry.

Following a number of updates from various members the night finished with a lively and passionate discussion on what/if anything we can do to change/improve the running of the club. After a number of ideas including: changing the meeting times & length, being more selective with guest speakers, not making the meal mandatory, more flexibility, it became obvious that there were more ideas & options than we had time for. While we will work through what we have come up with so far, I think there will be great value in dedicating one whole meeting to workshop further ideas & options. As always, feel free to forward any thoughts or suggestions to myself, President Greg or Secretary Grant.

This is your club and you all deserve a voice in making it as successful and as pleasurable to be a part of as you can.

Until next time, enjoy and have fun.
