Last week’s meeting: Speaker Lindsay McNaught
Lindsay is the President of the Cardinia Environment Coalition and back when things were normal, we donated funds to the coalition to assist with the establishment of their nursery at Deep Creek Reserve. At the time Elizabeth Fraser spoke to the club about the Coalition.
Lindsay was able to join us on Zoom and gave us a very interesting talk about the Coalition, its progress, and plans.
The Coalition has a small indigenous plant nursery at Tynong and had been looking for a better site for several years. With support from the Cardinia Council, grants from the Andrews Foundation and the State Government, and the donation from Rotary, they have been able to set up at the Deep Creek Reserve. Progress was delayed by the pandemic, but they are now getting established in their new nursery, adjacent to the golf club car park. It is expected that the Tynong nursery will be relocated to Deep Creek in the coming months. They also have two rooms in the main building that are used for educational purposes. Primary school students are bussed in one day each week, but this will be extended in the future.
The Coalition provides support to about 25 other organisations such as “Landcare” and “Friends of” groups, as well as assisting with the management of several bushland reserves such as the Guys Hill reserve, Toomuc Creek Reserve and Bandicoot Corner in Bayles.
